Radio essay | What is a village?

Arnar shares his thoughts in a RÚV radio essay.

Villages are a type of human settlement. But hey frequently serve as metaphors for community, in a wider context. Having worked with literal villages and communities of all sorts, they are a topic close to East of Moon's heart.

We've worked with villages such as Stintino in Sardinia. We've also experimented with how to do internet on village scale.

Recently, Arnar Sigurðsson was asked to do a radio essay for Iceland's RÚV. The original intention of editor was to reflect on the community in hafnar.haus that we are part of developing. In his essay, Arnar broadens the subject and paints up paralells between a down-town artistic community and an Icelandic coastal village, drawing from the poetry of Jón úr Vör.

The monologue, which is part of the Uppástand series, was brodcast on RÚV on October 1st. It can be listened to here (in Icelandic).
