The East of Moon Incubator

A space for purposeful creativity and innovation.

Do you want to take part in innovation and creativity towards a common good? Would you like to connect with other creators, hackers, developers and entrepreneurs to work together in a purpose driven way?

At East of Moon, we are developing a framework for this in the form of an incubator program.

How does it work?

There is a lack of support for innovation towards the common good. As East of Moon, we don’t have the power or financial resources to change this. We do however believe that coming together as a community, sharing ideas, resources, networks and simply motivation, can get us a long way. This is the heart of the incubator.

Each incubator session will run for three months. Selected participants will have access to:

  • A shared workspace at our studio in Hafnar.haus in Reykjavík. Including all the ammenities of the Haus community.
  • A weekly check-in session where they get to reflect on and support each other with their projects.
  • An opporunity to build a network and develop a community of fellow travellers.

East of Moon’s crew will take on the co-ordination of the incubator, but to a large extent we expect the program to be led by the participants themselves. Whether through shared meals, skillsharing or just mutual encouragement, we hope that the network we establish will be the basis for a supportive community.

When does it start?

The incubator will start on September 1st 2026. We will accept applications on a rolling basis, but we encourage you to apply by August 14th if you are interested in starting this fall. We will accept participants who are already working on an idea or a project, but also those who have a specific challenge or topic they want to work on. While participants will be accepted on a project basis, we welcome interest from individuals and organisations that don’t have a specific project in mind, but want to be part of a community for common good innovation.

What we expect from participants

The incubator is intended for participants who want to work on innovation towards a common good. This could mean developing something new that has a positive social impact, helps nurture community, protects the environment or shares resources and tools, as examples.

You can participate as an individual, a collective, a company or organization. We do not put restrictions on your organisation form. While we understand that not everyone will be in a position to work on their project full time, we are looking for participants who intend to use these three months as a way to put significant effort into pushing forward their projects, and able to check in at least weekly.

Who are you, why are you doing this?

East of Moon is a laboratory for community centered innovation. We get involved with a lot of projects we believe in and collaborate with people with a shared ethos. We have been part of nurturing creative communities and creating space for innovation in different contexts, such as . By formalising this incubator we hope to grow our community of friends and fellow travellers.

Previously, we have:

At this moment, we are not receiving any funding or institutional support to make this happen. We also do not ask for a fee or any kind of ownership or equitty in projects participating. In return for joining, we ask participants to take an active part in building a creative, purpose-driven community and to ackowledge their participation in some way in their promotional material.
