Kveðum saman
Language learning through community.
Kveðum saman is a community project that supports Icelandic residents to build social connections through singing. The project brings together Icelandic language learners with fluent speakers across different generations to explore traditional Icelandic folk songs.
Singing has been shown to have measurable benefits for language retention, wellbeing, and community cohesion. Through the creative and social act of singing together, learner participants develop pronunciation, listening skills and confidence in using Icelandic, as well as deepen their cultural understanding. Native Icelandic participants will be able to explore their heritage art while forming genuine bonds across linguistic, cultural and age divides.
This is project is supported with the Development Fund for Immigrant Issues by the Icelandic Ministry of Social Affairs and Housing.
